Titusville, FL and the Holy Land Experience

After leaving Miami, we headed north to Titusville. There is a very large, 1000 space RV park there, The Great Outdoors, where several of our Alaska Caravan friends spend the winter.

Most of them were not able to be at the reunion on Sunday morning when Don presented his Nicodemus monologue and asked us to come over to The Great Outdoors and present it for them. We took that opportunity to spend a few days in and around Titusville and have a little more time with good friends.

We are not people who tend to sit around an RV park with our feet up. We like to be out sight seeing as much as possible, so our first trip was to Orlando to the Holy Land Experience. Friends had been there and were very impressed.

The weather that day was perfect for a day spent mostly outdoors.
001
We entered through the gates of the “city”…
006
…and were greeted by this gentleman blowing a Shofar. Don fell in love with this and now we have one in the motorhome. With practice you can play three notes on it. (When we get home I will no doubt be booking him for parties and wedding receptions. Just call before his calendar is filled…)
016
There is a large lagoon with a huge fountain that does “water shows” off and on all day. Behind the lagoon was a topiary message, "He is Risen." There is wonderful music playing everywhere all day long.
040
There were programs of various types scheduled during the day as well as other things that you could walk through at your leisure.

039
We watched a skit on the Woman at the Well.

041
This building held a gift shop and cafe. All buildings try to stay true to the era they are depicting.
048
There is a huge model of the city of Jerusalem. This is only a very small area of it.

One of our favorite things was the Scriptorium. It was a high-tech presentation in which we went from room-to-room and in each saw original scriptures, from papyrus writings to the Gutenberg Press and Bible, to an animated Tyndale and scriptures produced in more recent times. I was not allowed to photograph in this area due to the protection of the ancient texts.
008
This is a replica of a tomb in Israel that many think may be the tomb of Jesus.
050
This is the inside of the tomb. The light is from the small window.
051
The most impressive part of the Holy Land Experience came in the afternoon when there was an reenactment of the Passion of the Christ. It made the whole trip worth it…and then some!
062
Roman Soldiers on guard.
076
Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss.
083
The beating of Jesus.
089
The beating continues...
091
Jesus forced to carry his cross.

102
Then came the crucifixion.
109
Jesus is offered vinegar to drink.
114

117
Jesus dies, his mother, Mary grieves.
118
Taking down the body of Jesus.
122
Carrying the body to the tomb.
126

Roman soldiers guard the tomb.

136
There is an earthquake, the soldiers flee, and the stone is rolled away.
145
Jesus followers come and find the tomb empty and the linen wrappings laid aside. They begin to celebrate because they know that He has risen, just as He said.
156
One of the soldiers who had seen it all, declares that Jesus truly was the Son of God.
165
Christ is resurrected and now He prepares to come into His eternal temple.
168
Angels dance and sing knowing He is coming home.
177

183
Trumpeters announce his entrance.

189
King Jesus arrives at his temple.
195

199
Satan is bound and thrown out.202
Jesus enters his temple and sits at the right hand of God.
203

205

206
The trumpeters play, the angels sing.
To God be the Glory!
Amen.
